Dangers of blasting caps threaten children nationwide
Last year about 200 children were injured after finding blasting caps used in roadwork and mining. About 85 percent of accidents occurred in rural areas as caps were left lying around or dropped after blasting. Officials warn children not to touch caps and urge adults to report them. A coordinated campaign by explosives manufacturers, schools, government agencies, and safety groups aims to reduce or end these accidents this year.
