In the Dry Piney Basin the General Petroleum Corporation struck green oil Wednesday morning. Testing will determine exact production and grade after drilling continues to a deeper cap. geologists warn initial figures are uncertain while excitement runs high locally about the potential yield.
In Kemmerer on March 29 1951 the Bertganolli Motor Co runs a tire campaign offering free groceries with every tire sold and a chance to win a bicycle. The ad promises a $2 trade allowance on old tires and batteries.
A bake sale fundraiser is planned at Masone's Store on April 7. Proceeds will support local community programs and emergency relief efforts. Community members are invited to donate baked goods and attend the event.
The first Big Piney high school built in 1914 is being razed by James Bertram after structural cracks led to condemnation. A note found during dismantling dates work from November 26 to December 20, 1914 with names Andrew Forbes and windy Collins, on Big Piney Hotel letterhead. A new series of rooms and other quarters will be erected in summer to meet needs.
Eight players from the Senior band and six from the Senior chorus of Big Piney High School are accepted for the Green River Festival, to be held April 13 and 24. Performers include Susan Twichel, Melvin Thompson, Bonnie Fox, Ruth Barton, Jon Bradley, Mary Moffat, Marilyn Ray, Marge Whitman, and singers Sally Noble, Meada Jones, Sally Buddam, Rustie Daniels, Charles Sims, and Leonard Vickrey. The Senior band prepares for an April 27 concert at the Community Hall highlighting modern pieces and classics by Sousa and Foster, opening with Mozart and Wagner. Ruth Barlin solos with the band in Willow Echoed. Junior and Senior bands and the chorus will attend the Kerameter Music Festival on May 4 and 5.
The National Production Authority of the U S Department of Commerce announced revised copper order M-12 amended March 9 1951. It governs copper use by electricians plumbers contractors and all copper base alloy users in manufacture installation and construction affecting List A and new List B. The order sets quarterly quotas based on 1950 base periods and provides adjustment procedures and contact details in Cheyenne Wyoming for manufacturers needing forms or help.
William P. Given of Casper, a process engineer at the Texas Company refinery, was selected Wyoming Chairman of the Oil Industry Information Committee to lead the state’s public relations program for the American Petroleum Institute. Given, a Montana School of Mines graduate, has long worked with school groups and university programs and previously chaired Casper Oil Progress Week.
The PTA sponsors a bake sale on Saturday April 7 at 2:00 pm in Milagener's store to fund band uniforms. The April PTA meeting, a pot-luck supper, is at Calpet on Monday April 9 at 7:30 pm. transportation help is via Mr. Cullens at the school.
Wyoming’s Weather Modification Board, created by the 1951 Legislature, met in Cheyenne with University of Wyoming President G D Humphrey announcing its composition including the university president, the state engineer, and the agriculture commissioner. The act requires board permits, registrations, annual fees, written reports, and governs funding and penalties for violations.
The Southwest Wyoming Hereford Association schedules its semi annual bull and heifer sale in Kemmerer in their new building on Wednesday and Thursday April 25 and 26. About 0 bulls and several grade A B C heifers will enter. consignors from multiple intermountain districts expect superior entries.
