Seniors Workshop In Saco Sponsored By County Council
Sessions of a live in workshop for volunteers sponsored by York County Council on Aging begin at Cascades in Saco with 23 participants from across the area arriving for a weekend of scores and discussions on elderly programs. Miss Shirley Bessey directs training with trainer speakers from Boston University Mrs Sarah Archer and Miss Virginia Jepson. Local participants include Mr and Mrs Lester Black Dr and Mrs Harold Stevens Mr and Mrs Robert Fenderson Miss Elvira Lord Albert Chretiens and others from Saco Biddeford Kennebunk Hollis Springvale Newfield Acton Cape Neddick and South Acton. Biddeford Wins 41,414 Title 1 Grant for Reading Program
The Biddeford Board of Education receives a 41,414 Title 1 grant for the In School Reading Improvement program in its fourth year. About 600 students from Smery Wentworth St Marys St Josephs and St Andre’s will be served by three reading specialists, ten aides, eye and hearing exams, guidance counseling, testing, speech therapy and more. Previous grants totaled 49,351 in 1967-68 48,648 in 1966-67 and 53,355 in 1965-66. Federal coordinator Roger R Johnson says funds may be increased and current funding covers roughly 90 percent of eligible total.

Biddeford Serviceman Wounded in Vietnam
Pfc. Ronald T. Grebin, 19, son of Mr and Mrs Paul A Grebin of Biddeford Maine, was wounded in action near Da Nang August 27. He suffered injuries to the abdomen legs ears and hands and is hospitalized in Vietnam. He attended Biddeford High School and has been awarded the Purple Heart.
