Living Costs Stay Flat At Record Level In August

Washington reports August consumer price index at 105.5 of 1957-59 average, unchanged from July. Food housing and medical care held flat, offset by higher used cars, gasoline, and recreation costs. Yearly inflation at 1.2 percent. old 1947-49 base shows 129.4. Meat prices up briefly on strike then cooled. eggs average 51.3 cents a dozen, lowest in 21 years.

Jury to Convene on Friday in Biddeford Indictments

Speculation swirls as York county grand jury reopens at 9 30 Friday morning in Alfred. County Atty John J Harvey requested the session to consider matters including previously secret indictments against Biddeford Mayor Clement H Deschambault and City Clerk Raoul Binette for larceny of 1292 08 from contractor Lucien Bourque. The panel had returned 24 indictments earlier this month with 12 sealed.
