Eisenhower challenges Khrushchev to join disarmament talks

President Eisenhower urged the Soviet Union to resume immediate disarmament negotiations with a goal of scrapping all nuclear weapons under UN inspection. He called for peaceful change led by the United Nations and proposed food for peace programs and aid to developing nations. Plane Crash Near Okinawa Kills 29 Marines

A four engine U.S. Marine transport plane with 29 aboard crashed into the sea 180 miles southeast of Okinawa. A U S destroyer renewed the search and reported no survivors. The DC six Marine aircraft carried 23 passengers and six crew from Atsugi Japan to Subic Point Philippines after an engine fire and ditching. Commander Crosby said Oriskany reported many bodies in life jackets and the Perkins was gathering them.

Golden Girl Diane Harris Found Dead in Texas

Houston police awaited autopsy results to determine the cause of death of Diane Harris known as the Golden Girl of Care Society. Her nude body was found in her Houston apartment with Dr William W McClellan and two lawyers present. Chester Brew claimed Harris as his daughter Mary Lou. Harris had been a material witness in the Mickey Jelke vice case in New York in 1953.

Rumor Ted Williams To Become Sox Part Owner

Fugitive Sought in Coors Death Kidnapping

Adolph Coors III was abducted from Denver and killed with two gunshot wounds. An FBI report indicates he died before a ransom note to his family was delivered. No contact was made with the kidnapper. the FBI withdraws from the case though the search continues.

Convict Flees Prison To See Dead Son

Roland Lopez a 27 year old robber escaped from Chino Prison to attend the funeral of his stepson Joseph five. He stood by the grave with detectives and thanked them before being returned to custody. The escape carries a sentence from one year to life.
