Toll Soars as Hurricane Fifi Kill Count Rises

In Honduras the emergency committee estimates 7000 to 8000 deaths from floods and landslides caused by Fifi. Choloma reports 3000 to 4000 deaths. dozens of towns flooded, many residents stranded on roofs or in trees. Air and land rescues hampered by weather as La Ceiba and other coast towns are isolated. Four Desertors Given Discharge Under Amnesty Program

The first four men who reported for President Ford s amnesty completed processing and were discharged from the Army about midnight Friday at Ft. Benjamin Harrison. They received undesirable discharges after review, with terms of alternative service of 12, 20, 21 and 24 months. Deserters long relocated to Sweden and Canada face mixed views on applying, while processing for up to 150 men daily will move to Camp Atterbury, Ind. James Rolph, 25, surrendered at Harrison and called his mother in Kentucky.

Four Escape From York County Jail Through Roof Hatch

Authorities seek four men who escaped Friday night from York County Jail by forcing a ceiling section and using an air duct to reach the roof. The escapees, Allen Smith, 18, Arundel. Patrick Alexander, 18, Sanford. Lance Burgess, 27, Nottingham NH. Michael Moustafa, 22, Cambridge MA, wore green coveralls and sneakers.
