Troops Capture IRA Commander in Belfast Gunfight
British troops killed a gunman and wounded three others during a firefight in a Belfast Catholic area after capturing Eddie Campbell, 24, commander of the Ardoyne Battalion. At least 20 Provisional leaders have been seized in days, with two soldiers killed earlier. The SDLP floated a plan for joint Britain Ireland control as an interim step toward unity, a move unlikely to win broad support among Ulster Protestants.
