Travel Problem Solved By Bill Casavant
Thornton Academy students Christiano Furtado and Yoko Furuya solved a travel issue by living with local families while attending classes. Christiano arrived from Brazil after two weeks in the United States, and Yoko has spent about 364 days in the country as a high school junior. Both came via the International Student Placement Service of Lincoln, Massachusetts, directed by Mrs. Eleanor Wilson.

Union members of the Mare Corp in New England vote 582 to 269 to approve a three year contract with wage and fringe benefit increases totaling over 66 cents per hour. The deal, ratified by Local 406 of the Textile Workers Union AFL-CIO-CLC, runs three years from Sept. 15, 1972, and was negotiated amid amicable talks and strong turnout. Negotiators praised the leadership and members for voting confidence and security for the period.
