Inventor Carlson built a copier empire and wealth
Chester Carlson, 62, says his wealth is under 50 million dollars and reflects on his photoelectric process, the dry image method leading to Xerox office copiers. From a modest Astoria lab to a 1 billion annual sale, his invention reshaped offices worldwide, with over 550 people gathering for an electrophoto conference in Rochester. He lives modestly in Pittsford with wife Doris Hudgins, supports charities, and has no further invention plans.
