James P W Davidson executive vice president of Saco-Lowell Shops formally presented the first M-60 machine gun manufactured at the Edwards plant Saco to Gen O B Hurlburt commander of the Ordnance Weapons command during a Cascades luncheon The air cooled gun weighs 23 pounds fires 90 rounds per minute and uses a 762 mm NATO cartridge It will be produced 14890 units and replaces three World War II era weapons The event included a tour of the Edwards plant and a line tour with Army officials and local leaders
