Sixteen Scholarships Awarded At Biddeford Ceremony
At Biddeford Junior High School last night the Citizens Scholarship Awards Foundation distributed sixteen scholarships totaling 2800 dollars to students from Biddeford and Saco area high schools. Recipients included Patrick M Miniutti and Carol Sevigny from Biddeford High and Leo Dumouchel from St Louis High, with donors such as Whitman and Howard Inc York County Savings Bank and First National Bank of Biddeford among others. Mayor Edward Gaulin presided as awards were announced and refreshments followed the ceremony.

Third Of Petitions For Maine Liquor Referendum Questioned
Augusta AP reports liquor license counsel says about 30 percent of referendum petitions examined are invalid. Wallace J. Campbell Jr. argues deputy clerks cannot certify signatures and that multi municipality lists are flawed. Even if 30 percent ruled invalid, about 37,000 would remain valid to trigger a February vote.
