Airport Hearings Resume On Regional Plan In New England
A five week Civil Aeronautics Board hearing on a proposed regional airport plan for New England is in recess with sessions to resume Thursday for the Southern Connecticut phase. James W. Austin of Northeast Airlines testified that eliminating service at 12 airports could be offset by a few regional hubs. He said the system would require airports able to handle four engine DC-6Bs and Viscounts and all weather capability. Northeast would focus on a limited number of regional airports given the high investments. Edwin W. Breed described possible year round and seasonal shuttle services between Bangor and Bar Harbor, Lewiston and Portland, and بين Concord and Manchester New Hampshire, with stops at Rockland to Augusta. Some routes would not work regularly, including ground service to Berlin, Fitchburg, Lawrence, Newport, Pittsfield, and Waterville.
