Marines Die In Helicopter Collision During Amphibious Drill

Nine U.S. Marines perished as two H34 helicopters collided at about 800 feet during large scale U.S.-Spanish amphibious maneuvers near Huelva Spain. Twelve recovered from the wreckage and a 13th was injured. the operation involved 120 ships and 50,000 personnel with a 30,000 strong force.

Msgr Dube Saco pastor dies suddenly at 53

Rt Rev Msgr Arthur J Dube 53 chief judge of the Port land diocese church court and pastor of Notre Dame de Lourdes Saco since 1960 died suddenly of heart disease in his Saco rectory early today He was born July 22 1911 in South Berwick and educated at Assumption College Holy Heart Seminary Canon Law studies led to a 1941 Canon Law doctorate He served at multiple parishes and held posts in the Diocesan Tribunal later becoming domestic prelate in 1963 Survivors include several cousins Continued on Page Two

U S Deploys 15 B52 Bombers to Guam Near China

The United States posted a squadron of 15 B52 heavy jet nuclear bombers on Guam within about 2,000 miles of Red China, replacing older B47 aircraft. The move, made last spring, doubles range over the U.S. base and introduces long-range strike capability with 24 megaton-class weapons and Hound Dog missiles.

Biddeford Saco Chest Drive Reports Progress

Total pledges reached 15727.91 at the second report meeting held at the Chamber of Commerce. Gifts included 1293.50 from special sources, 3816.20 from industry, 945 from small industry, 757.71 from business, and 396.60 from the public. The drive is 47 percent of its goal as Harold P. Waight and James H. Murphy urge complete reports. A third reporting meeting is scheduled for November 2.

Jury Progress Stalls in MacDonald Murder Trial

In Alfred court little progress was made toward a full jury for the MacDonald murder trial. Ten prospective jurors were interviewed with none chosen by noon on day seven. A total of 12 jurors and two alternates are needed before testimony can begin. Over 200 jurors have been called, 121 interviewed, 11 seated, 80 excused, and 40 brought from the streets, with three jurors chosen on Saturday among 19 interviewed.

Ledoux Couple Feted On 50th Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Albert Ledoux of 442 Pool Road Biddeford celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise party hosted by their children at the Owen-Davis Post American Legion in Saco. Attended by over 100 guests, the event featured gifts including two money trees and a cake by Ruth Ledoux, with 26 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren present. The Ledouxs were married October 24 1914 at Sacred Heart Church Amesbury Massachusetts.

Taxpayers Favor Referendum Item in Saco Vote
