Winter Takes Early Swipe At Eastern Part Of Nation
A record breaking early season snowfall blanketed most of Maine today. The U S Weather Bureau in Portland warned the storm would continue and bring six inches or more near the coast and four inches inland. One inch had already fallen in Portland breaking a 56 year October record. A Greyhound bus and two cars left the Maine Turnpike at Mile 39 south of South Portland. no injuries on the bus but a woman was hospitalized. Troopers urged tollgates to slow traffic as slush and slick spots appeared.
