Saco-Lowell Wins $1.5 Million Army Guns Pact

The Army Weapons Command awarded Saco-Lowell 7,548 M 60 machine guns and bipod assemblies in a 1.482 million contract. Maremont Corp. in Saco also announced a separate 786 thousand dollar M 60 deal with follow-on 1966 production and continued spare parts orders for the M 60. The Saco plant plans employment growth tied to textile machinery parts and ordnance business for 1966.

Senate Reconsiders Water Projects Bill After Approval

The Senate approved a compromise to authorize 140 water projects costing about 2 billion dollars and then moved to reconsider the measure. Democratic Leader Mike Mansfield requested the reconsideration with no stated reason. The plan, agreed by conferees on Oct 15, would fund projects via future appropriations and include 41 states. Key item is the 227 million Dickey Lincoln School hydroelectric project in northern Maine.

The AP reports another U S bomber downed over North Viet Nam with two crewmen presumed captured. The F4C Phantom was shot Monday near a bridge 40 miles west of Vinh, marking the sixth U S plane lost in North Viet Nam in three days and the 115th since bombing began last February.

Man Killed as Dominican gunfight rages in Santo Domingo

In Santo Domingo a civilian man was killed amid renewed clashes between Dominican troops and rebel partisans. Provisional President Hector Garcia-Godoy halted extra troop deployments and ordered a weapons crackdown as tanks remained at the Ozama fortress. A dock workers leader, Jose Ramirez, was among casualties as fighting spanned the harbor district.

First report meeting shows 7 622 dollars pledged or 22 percent of the 33 897 dollar goal. Campaign drive chair Robert E.
