Community Chest Parade Opens Drive in Biddeford Saco
Hundreds of spectators lined Beach and Main Streets in Saco as the annual Community Chest drive opened. The five division parade moved to the bridge and city square with escorts from Saco police and Biddeford fire protection. Mayors Deschambault of Biddeford and Cote of Saco joined Chest officials and local business leaders for the reviewing stand. Alcide Villandry led the march as marshal with aides Morin Hunnewell McKenney Stackpole. Bands from St Louis High Old Orchard Beach High Biddeford High Thornton Academy headlined floats from Girl Scouts Boy Scouts and health departments. Civil Defense units fire and rescue trucks and military pieces followed. A rally at Pepperell Hall featured remarks by Martin J. Rielly and John B. Malcolm Portland YMCA official.

A 28 year old American teacher Mark I Kaminsky from near Niles Michigan says he pled guilty to espionage after being told he would receive a light sentence by Soviet authorities.
