Campaign chairman Paul vant reports the Biddeford Saco Community Chest has raised $11,660.55 to 41 percent of its $28,700 goal after a second progress report shows $5,167.80 collected since Monday. Final reports are set for October 22 as nearly 200 volunteers push for higher totals.

The Boston and Maine Railroad was ordered to show cause why it should not discontinue two Maine trains and convert three others to self propelled cars. A show cause hearing is set for 9 a m Saturday in Portland City Hall, with service to continue pending the PUC decision.
