Intrepid Relieves FDR In Mediterranean Assignment
The USS Intrepid will replace the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt in the Mediterranean later this year. The Intrepid, returning to Quonset Point, has worked in the North Atlantic and joined NATO fleets in an exercise. The Roosevelt has operated with the Sixth Fleet since February and will head to Mayport, Florida before Christmas. The Intrepid will be fitted with jet powered aircraft to use the CV concept for anti submarine and attack roles.
