The United States and the Soviet Union are quietly negotiating a consular treaty in Moscow aimed at easing tensions and boosting potential trade. The pact would allow each side to open consulates in non capital cities, with Senate ratification required for final effect.
A Biddeford accountant Robert Noble has been named vice chairman of the Biddeford-Saco Chest Drive set to begin October 21. Noble recently returned to Biddeford after a 15 year absence and has worked with Firestone Sanford Columbia Broadcasting Hooker Chemical Kinney and St. Croix Paper. Dinsmore Worthing of Camp Ellis Saco has been elected a member of the Thornton Academy Board of Trustees. He is a 1925 Thornton graduate and former mayor of Saco in 1962. Worthing retired in 1959 after a career at Wirthmore Feeds and later executive VP at its Boston office. He now serves on the Maine Water Improvement Commission and fills a vacancy left by George D. Love.
