Peckham Seeks Hearing On Wyman Demotion

Charles D. Peckham Jr. said he would urge the Old Orchard Beach Board of Selectmen to grant a public hearing for demoted Police Chief Leslie Wyman. Wyman seeks a hearing to clear the air after his demotion from chief to patrolman. Also promoted were Patrolman John Clark to police chief and Donald Lake and Phillip Levesque to sergeants. McLeod charged Peckham with unlawfully blocking the vote and noted the right to know law.

Thanksgiving Will Be Fair in New England

The weather forecast for Thanksgiving predicts near normal temperatures in New England. Temperatures will range from the mid 30s in the north to the low 50s in the south. A cold front moving from central New York and Pennsylvania is expected to pass this afternoon, bringing rain before clearing skies tonight.

Holiday Observance Closes Town Businesses and Offices

Thanksgiving will be observed quietly in Biddeford Saco with most stores and municipal offices closed. Municipal offices in Biddeford Saco and Old Orchard Beach closed Thursday and reopen Friday at 9. Saco Lowell shops closed. Pepper Manufacturing closed Thursday with some operations resuming at 11 p.m. Thursday night. Biddeford Saco Journal not published Thursday. Union Thanksgiving service tonight at 7:30 at South Biddeford Methodist church. Schools closed for the week and reopen Monday.

Peloquin Announces Bid for Biddeford Council Seat

Icar Peloquin a local businessman and property owner announces his candidacy for councilman at large in support of Mayor Clement H. Deschambault ahead of the December 12 primary. He is lifelong Biddeford resident and operates Peloquin's Esso Service on Elm Street. He attended St. Joseph parish.

Weather Satellite TIROS I Lives Up To First In Orbit

The United States launched TIROS I a 280 pound weather satellite from Cape Canaveral aboard a Thor Delta rocket at 6 13 a m The NASA report placed TIROS I in an almost circular orbit with perigee 415 miles apogee 435 miles and an 98 minute orbital period Two TV cameras were expected to begin transmitting cloud cover images around 8:30 a m The launch marked a near perfect success with a stabilizing spinning deployment and de spinning mechanism functioning as planned later in the morning
