Violinist Eugene Marki Dies After Illness

Eugene Marki 57 of Arundel died Wednesday in a Portland hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in New York City he studied at Juillard School of Music and became a renowned violinist conductor touring Europe with his orchestra and performing on Broadway. He led the Monte Carlo Symphony as concert master. Survived by widow Lois Van Pelt Mark of Arundel and sister Sylvia Fineburg of New York. Private funeral arrangements by Bibber Memorial Chapel Kennebunk.

Flora Simard dies after long illness in Biddeford

Flora Simard 67 a Biddeford resident died Wednesday night in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born May 14 1907 in Lynn MA and moved to the Biddeford area at 18. She was a parishioner of St Andrew and a Knights of Columbus auxiliary member. Surviving are a daughter Annette Petit two sisters Yvonne Anderson and Mabel Cameron six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mass will be Saturday at 10 am at St Andre Church with interment in St Joseph Cemetery. Visitation is at Emond and Conroy Funeral Home tonight and Friday.

Mrs Lea Plessis 63 Biddeford resident dies after illness

Lea Plessis 63 of 336 Alfred Street Biddeford died Wednesday in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. Born December 7 1910 in Biddeford she was a St Joseph Church communicant and member of the St Joseph Guild and Biddeford Senior Citizens Club. Interment is planned at St Joseph Cemetery Hill Street Biddeford. viewing today and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Kennebunk Nurse Miss Jessica L Butland Dies at 81

Miss Jessica L. Butland 81 of 13 Mechanic Street Kennebunk died Wednesday night in a local nursing home after a long career as a practical nurse. She ran a convalescent home for elderly women and is survived by her sister Mrs. Elsie Clark and several cousins. burial/ services to be held at the family's convenience.

More Snow Forecast For North

The National Weather Service reported up to five inches of snow in northern and western Maine last night with three to five more inches expected today. Caribou and Houston recorded five inches, Greenville three, Rumford one. some areas had sleet and freezing rain. The storm brought nearly two inches of rain to Portland and widespread rainfall in southern and central Maine as it moved northeast along the coast. Snow flurries were forecast in the south this evening.

Firefighters extinguish damp blaze in Old Orchard Beach

Survivors credit crew for saving lives in Nairobi crash

Survivors of the Lufthansa Boeing 747 crash near Nairobi praised the crew for rapid actions that saved many lives. Port Resident Sentenced On Assault Counts

Willard C. Taylor 43 of Ocean Ave Kennebunkport received a one to three year suspended sentence and two years probation after pleading guilty in Superior Court to high and aggravated assault and simple assault for a knife attack on Marilyn Young and Lucy Nunan at a residence on Old Port Road. Young suffered facial slashes. Taylor had faced assault with intent to kill charges and waived grand jury to plead guilty by information.
