Battles near Da Nang kill 416 Viet Cong and NVA
Allied forces reported 416 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong killed in coastal lowlands below Da Nang as heavy fighting continued for a second day. Lt. Gen. Lam said the enemy began winter offensive with 45 incidents since Saturday, including eight ground attacks and 32 mortar or rocket strikes. Twelve South Vietnamese soldiers died and 72 wounded.
