Balloon travels 1300 miles from Wisconsin to Maine

Stacey Beyer a five year old from Sun Prairie Wisconsin released a pink balloon with a note. It traveled about 1300 miles and was found by Lawrence O Connor in Biddeford Maine while deer hunting near Goodwins Mills. The note asks for replies and mentions birthday April 26. Stacey’s mother notes 1500 balloons were sent by students last October and maps track each find.

Mystery disease hits Bellevue-Stratford Hotel in Philadelphia

The Bellevue-Stratford Hotel, closing after 72 years, hosts an all day conference on Legionnaires Disease. Twenty nine deaths are linked to the hotel and related Legion delegates, with about 180 ill. seven scientists and doctors speak at the event sponsored by the American Lung Association of Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties.

Biddeford Band Chosen for Carter Inaugural Parade

Biddeford High School marching band selected by Maine Democratic Committee to represent the state in the inaugural parade for President elect Jimmy Carter in Washington. Saco dog owner shuns day in court

HONG KONG reports that China via NCNA says Soviet military power is bearhugging Western Europe with aims of a surprise attack. The warning coincides with NATO talks in Williamsburg Virginia. Plains church votes to admit black members on case basis

A three hour rain soaked wait outside Jimmy Carter's Baptist Church in Plains Ga preceded a congregational vote to change church policy. The decision allows black members on a case by case basis. King a 56 year old minister from Albany was reportedly pleased with the decision.
