Wallace to appeal federal order on Auburn case
Gov. George Wallace announced in a Dartmouth news conference that he will appeal a federal court injunction requiring Auburn University to admit Harold A. Franklin, a Black applicant from Montgomery. Wallace argued the decision would lower educational standards and noted Franklin’s non accredited school background. He defended Birmingham demonstration methods as misrepresented, claiming dogs only grabbed cloth and cattle prods were humane.
