Phil Masse was elected grand knight of the Biddeford Knights of Columbus at last night’s meeting. A second degree is set for May 27 at Cheverus High School and a third degree May 29 at the Portland Council chambers. The ladies auxiliary hosts a covered dish supper Saturday at 6:30 followed by dancing. Retiring Grand Knight Picard presided.

City Funds Used to Pay Suspended Officer’s Salary
Dover Mayor Patrick J. Greene ordered the city treasurer to pay the suspended officer Frank Redden’s salary from the mayor’s budget to prevent hardship to the father of six. Redden was suspended after agreeing with City Solicitor Philip Keefe to drop drunken driving charges against a Rochester man, with grossly careless driving substituted. The police commission offered no comment on the mayor’s action.
