Red Carpet Club Fire Destroys Beach Establishment

A suspicious fire leveled the Red Carpet Club at 95 West Grand Ave Old Orchard Beach injuring no one but forcing mass response from Beach Saco and Scarborough units. Owner Denis Dancoes had bought the club last week and said no one resided there while investigators probe the blaze and threats to the new owner’s family are noted.

Kennebunk Junior High adopts staggered sessions for next year

The SAD 71 board approved a plan keeping seventh and eighth graders in the junior high with staggered attendance to ease overcrowding. About 60 attendees welcomed the proposal and rejected earlier ideas to move all grades six to eight to the Consolidated school. Student council member Jayne Bergeron praised activities planned and noted late dismissal concerns.

Amoroso Named New Chief of Saco Police Department

Francis Amoroso won a 4-3 city council vote to become Saco police chief succeeding retiring Chief Alfred Cote. He will leave Portland where he directs crime prevention and community relations and plans a 30 day notice. He pledged to prove capable while noting no personal attacks from opponents.
