Bar Mills Man 102 Dies in Biddeford
Samuel B. Shepard of Bar Mills aged 102 years nine months died in a Biddeford hospital. He founded the Saco River Telephone Co. in 1889 and led York Mutual Fire Insurance. A longtime Republican voter, he last cast a ballot at the Buxton town meeting in March. Oldest Colby College alumnus, he had no close relatives and had worked as a furniture maker in Chelsea, Massachusetts before moving to Bar Mills. Funeral set for Thursday at 2 p.m. at Neal Funeral Home Gorham, with viewing Wednesday 7 to 9.
