Augusta AP report says a probe into public power petitions will be delayed as a PAM bill moves to enactment under a deal between Sen. Wa kine G. Tanous and public power advocates. The measure would create a Power Authority of Maine to regulate generation and include a referendum guarantee. Senate and judiciary members criticized Gov Curtis for delaying the investigation, calling for release of evidence and cooperation.

Caulfield Testifies Nixon Linked to Clemency Offer
Caulfield said Dean told him high White House officials would offer executive clemency to Watergate burglar McCord and that he believed the President was involved. He testified Dean did not name Nixon and urged secrecy. Caulfield said no one told him of the offer before meetings with McCord and that Nixon denied authorizing clemency. He admitted doubts but said loyalty to the President influenced him. The hearing focused on the clemency proposal and Caulfield’s role between Dean and McCord.
