Biddeford Jobs Challenge Unemployment Figures

Police chief chosen in Saco

Francis E. Amoroso, a civilian director for Portland, was named Saco’s new police chief after 24 applicants. City Administrator John Dexter announced the appointment at a closed door session. council to confirm Monday. Amoroso, 36, would earn about 14000 dollars annually, succeeding Chief Alfred Cote who retires due to his wife’s illness.

Budget Session for SAD 71 Seeks Calm Amid Rising Costs

Kennebunkport residents attended a Wednesday budget hearing on the 1976 77 SAD 71 plan totaling 2 536 273 dollars up 8 4 percent from the current year The town faces an 8 7 percent rise in Kennebunkport assessments and a 13 43 cent increase for Kennebunk A second informational session is set for tonight at 7 30 PM in the Kennebunk Junior High Library If the public weighs cuts they want the board will consider them under a new design allowing targeted reductions starting Sept 1 1977 The board plans a 6 percent salary increase for teachers and no new staff except one teacher assistant while custodians receive a 17 5 percent raise The meeting raised questions about staffing numbers and the lunch program deficit with figures on staffers to be provided at the May 25 meeting.
