Food Prices Up 12 Percent Despite Price Freeze
The Agriculture Department says retail food prices will average about 12 percent higher in 1973 even with a 60 day price freeze and Phase 4 controls. Farmers may produce less meat milk and poultry and corn and soybeans could yield lower due to late planting fuel and fertilizer shortages. Corn and soybeans drive meat and dairy output and a late planting season may affect later harvests. Wheat is expected to reach a record level.
