Lemire decries inequitable Biddeford school subsidy formula
Biddeford Mayor Leo Lemire argues the per pupil subsidy formula penalizes Biddeford because half its pupils attend parochial schools. He cites 1966 subsidies: Biddeford 88000, Saco 197000, Kennebunk 97000, with 1835.5 vs 2340 and 1225 pupils in 63-64. He notes Saco's 109000 higher subsidy despite only 505 more public pupils and Kennebunk's 9000 higher with 610 fewer pupils, urging legislative reform.

Investor Forum Sees Rates Steady as Savings Demand Surges
In March 1967 nearly 4 billion dollars flowed into securities as the Fed cut reserve requirements and the basic discount rate from 4 1 4 percent to four percent. Despite easing signals, money rates stayed firm with many bonds and preferred stocks yielding five percent or more. Major firms like American Can General Motors and United States Steel offered 4 percent or higher issues trading above or near call prices. A further rate cut by the Fed could lift prices for bonds and preferred stocks, prompting cautious investors to diversify into these issues.
