Vermont Upheld On Pay Ruling By Vermont Supreme Court
The U S Supreme Court declined to review a Vermont decision that tuition payments to Catholic parochial schools by a town school district are unconstitutional. The Vermont Supreme Court had ruled such aid violates the First Amendment. The South Burlington district paid tuition for students to Catholic and other private schools under a 1915 law. A taxpayer challenged the payments, with attorneys including Paul M Butler representing intervening parents. The high court’s denial leaves the Vermont ruling in place.
