Danger Of Fires In Maine Driven By Near Gale Winds

AAP report notes near gale force winds in Maine raise forest fire risk. Winds gusted to 40 mph, fire danger labeled extremely hazardous in southern and central areas. Maine Democrats Set For Convention in Waterville

The Maine Democratic party outlines a three day pre convention session with a public meeting tonight to discuss changes to the platform draft. The draft favors borrowing for long term capital expenses and taxes only when needed under an ability to pay principle. It also calls for labor reforms education funding health and welfare expansions economic development and regional airports plus a foreign trade division.

Staff Named By Jaycees Biddeford Saco Chapter

William Robbins was elected president of the Biddeford Saco chapter of the Junior Chamber of Commerce at a meeting last night. Offiers named include Donald Waterhouse as first vice president James Farrington as second vice president Willard Stackpole and Eugene Gammon as directors. The secretary and treasurer are to be elected later with duties to begin at a June installation banquet. The group voted to contribute 5 toward a gift for Maine Jaycee President Arthur Thompson of Limestone and to pay a convention HQ bill. Members heard safety belt project updates and campaign speeches from Claude Bowlin of Portland for state president and James Saunders of Sanford for state vice president.
