Gulls Bombing With Mussels At Kennebunkport

Seagulls in Kennebunkport have learned to snatch mussels discarded by river dredging and drop them onto pavements. The shells crack over sidewalks and streets, creating hazards for pedestrians and drivers alike as the gull population surges.

Portland doubles bomb shelter space to 97

Civil Defense Director Harold F. Frank announced that a campaign has doubled Portland’s bomb shelter capacity to 97 shelters, enough to accommodate the entire population.

Four Named In Secret Indictments

Four area residents were arrested this morning on secret indictments by the York County Sheriff's Department. The suspects, all from Saco and Old Orchard Beach, include Donald E. Buzzell, William Desmond, Paul Paris, and Paul P. Desmond. Buzzell, Desmond, and Paris face receiving stolen property charges while Paul Desmond faces breaking entering and larceny in the nighttime. The indictments were returned by the York County Grand Jury the previous day. The four were to be taken to Alfred this afternoon.

Johnson Signs 700 Million Vietnam War Aid Bill

Tornado toll rises across Minnesota suburbs and lakes

A string of tornadoes across the Minneapolis area killed at least 10 people and injured over 300 as homes, farms, and lakefront properties suffered heavy damage. Gov.
