Alexandria Mayor complains over Dixie blasting from building

Walter Heatherwick, 55, wired two loudspeakers to an empty five story building and blasted the Confederate anthem toward the mayor’s office sparking complaints. Mayor John Snyder alleges the stunt aims to incite blacks to riot and harm nearby business. Heatherwick was arrested for disturbing the peace and released on bond. the song continued to play later.

Kids Prefer Ham and Cheese to PBJ This Summer

In Columbus a city recreation survey of 59 meal sites serving about 6000 youths under the federal lunch program finds ham and cheese as the top preferred lunch. Bologna and cheese, plain bologna, and spiced luncheon loaf follow. peanut butter and jelly ranks last and will not be served this summer.

Manchester voters elect two to finish five member commission

Manchester Georgia voters concluded a long series of ballots with two winners in a nine vote effort. Hugh Sonny Bradshaw captured 851 votes and Jack Dorman 841 to join Willie James Ted Anderson who earned 536. The tally surpassed the required majority of 665.

California bar liable in manslaughter case verdict

A Beverly Hills bar has been found liable under Dram Shop laws for more than 2 million dollars after patrons caused a fatal crash and injuries. The Stacy case awarded James Stacy 1.9 million and Claire Cox's estate 400 thousand, with an additional 175 thousand for a road maintenance claim. Los Angeles attorneys for the bar said they will appeal and seek a reduction.

The AP reports April wholesale prices rose eight tenths of a percent led by a 4.2 percent jump in farm prices and a 1.9 percent rise in processed foods, signaling higher living costs ahead. Zaitlin finds angels for broadcasts

After a long search Saco Mayor Samuel Zaitlin secured sponsors to fund city council meeting broadcasts. Mare mont Corp and West Point-Pepperell Inc will pay the remaining 75 per month, joining Continental Cablevision Saco Tanning Corp and Oxford Bank and Trust in funding a 200 per month service. WIDE radio had halted the broadcasts due to rising costs and would resume with better gear if sponsors cover the cost.
