Windswept woods fires threaten Beach area fire crews respond
Firefighters from Biddeford Saco and nearby agencies battled two wind driven woods fires Monday near Ross Road and Ryefield Drive. The Ross Road blaze grew to about ten acres before being halted by brush and swampy terrain aided by two state tanker planes. Crews also fought a dump fire that spread through the woods, reigniting and burning additional ground before containment. Firefighters remained on scene to smother smoldering stumps and prevent flare ups as night fell.
