Grant Company set to occupy a new 30,000 square foot department store building in Biddeford Center, with occupancy expected in December. Weekend fires in Biddeford and Saco left one person dead and seven homeless. In Saco at 105 Common Street a 70 year old man, Walter W. Choroszy, was found in a first floor bedroom after the blaze. The fire is believed to have started in that bedroom, with extensive smoke and water damage across the apartment building. In Biddeford a two story home on Proctor Road was destroyed while occupants were away, leaving Mr and Mrs Aurelius Rue and sons Robert and Marcel homeless. Fire officials say the cause is undetermined, suspected to have started in the barn area. volunteers aided containment. Mrs Wellington Paynter, resident, suffered facial burns while helping attempts to reach the victim and later received treatment. The house is believed insured. no loss estimate given. Choroszy, a Polish-born former Bates employee, leaves a wife, daughter, son, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
