Biddeford Announces Bicycle Safety Week Activities

Biddeford outlines Bicycle Safety Week with programs for youngsters across the city. Highlights include a safety film at Central theater, a school poster contest, bicycle testing and registration, and a Saturday road to climax. Trooper Herman Boudreau will show a new film, with staggered showings for city and St Mary, St Joseph, St Louis, and St Andre students. Raymond Kenneally directs the poster contest. entries assessed Friday noon by a Biddeford safety group committee led by Mrs. Robert Johnson. Alden Jacobs heads the bicycle testing and registration with auxiliary police and students from St Louis and Biddeford high schools assisting.

Sign on City Property Sparks Civil Dispute in Saco Court

Benson of Lafayette Street charged Saco officials with pressure in a Municipal Court session over a no trespass sign on city property. Antonio Lamontagne stated the city only wanted the sign removed. sign had allegedly been moved from a pole on city property and was on the Merrill estate. The matter became civil between the Merrill estate and Benson as Chief Kerry and City Solicitor Brickates noted prior city actions.

Hadassah Biddeford Saco Elects New President

Mrs Jon Nathanson was elected president of the Biddeford Saco Hadassah chapter at the annual meeting at Etz Chaim synagogue vestry. Officers include Mau rice Ross vice president Irving Remar recording secretary and Irving Saperia cor responding secretary. An installation planned for June 17 at 6 30 p m at the Lafayette Hotel Old Orchard Beach with co chair Jon Nathanson and Carl Haas chairing dinner arrangements. A rummage sale is set for May 13 14 on Main Street. delegates attended a New England Regional conference May 31 to June 2 at the Mayflower Hotel in Plymouth Mass.

Western Electric offers phone guided sidewalk tour

In New York the Western Electric Co. has introduced a new sidewalk feature at its 31 story building site. Fifteen telephones placed along the sidewalk let passersby hear a taped voice explain the latest phase of the construction as the project progresses.

Churchill Visits Ill Friends with Eisenhower

In Washington a frail 84 year old Churchill accompanied by President Eisenhower visited two gravely ill old allies at Walter Reed Army Hospital. John Foster Dulles, ill with cancer, used a wheelchair for the meeting, while General George C. Marshall, recovering from strokes, received Churchill and Eisenhower with recognition. Dulles thanked Churchill, saying it was good for him to come.

Search Finds Wreckage Of Plane Carrying Hanover Doctors

In Lincoln New Hampshire today Dartmouth College officials announced the wreckage of a small plane used by two Hanover physicians who disappeared over two months ago. A conservation officer spotted the craft over Pemigewasset Valley and a ground crew moved toward the remote area. The plane vanished February 21 during a return flight from Berlin to Lebanon in a snowstorm. Aboard were Aaroh E. Miller 60 and Robert Quinn 32 faculty and staff at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover. Miller a pathology leader and Arctic expedition pilot had recently led a Dartmouth research team to Churchill Manitoba and helped organize the CAP in 1940.
