Kissinger Says Soviet Proposals Fall Short in Nuclear Talks

Secretary of State Kissinger traveled toward home after Soviet proposals failed to yield a breakthrough for a new treaty to limit nuclear weapons. Thornton Academy to add 350000 science complex expansion

Trustees signed a contract with Sanford and Low to build a two floor addition to the science complex at Thornton Academy. The project, funded by the academy, expands science art and business programs with new laboratories classrooms and two new teachers. Construction begins in two to three weeks with completion aimed for Oct or Nov.

Levitt offers land option to Kennebunk amid dispute

Levitt and Sons offers the town of Kennebunk or a suitable buyer an option to purchase 90 acres along the Kennebunk River for 65,000. The land is slated for a 154 condo development off Summer Street, with the town’s acceptance potentially ending a Superior Court suit. The property is valued around 140,600, totaling about 205,000 with the option costs.

Long Awaited Pittston Oil Decision Postponed

AUGUSTA The State Board of Environmental Protection delays the Pittston plan to build an oil refinery and terminal at Eastport after a Maine attorney general ruling requires Pittston to prove clear title or interest in the land. The BEP votes to reopen the case and grant six months to establish property rights, with a new public hearing to be scheduled. Opposition from CRAC NRC EPA and support from Eastport.
