Denver Quake Report To Be Sent To President
Washington AP President Johnson will receive within a month a report on actions the federal government can take to stop or minimize mysterious earthquakes plaguing the Denver area for six years. Dr Donald Hornig leads the investigation with four scientists proposing a 10 to 20 percent chance of a major quake this year. The findings follow Army activities around a 24 mile deep well near Denver used for liquid wastes from the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. Scientists debate a cause effect link between the waste injections and quakes, even after injections ceased in 1966. Some favor pumping out the waste while others warn it could trigger larger quakes, with estimates of up to 440 years to pump out the well.
