Maine BEP will decide Wednesday if Pittston Co. may build a 250000 barrel per day refinery and supertanker terminal at Eastport Maine. The 11 member panel's vote will be announced at 1:30 pm at the Augusta Civic Center after months of hearings and testimony.

Fire kills two year old in Biddeford tenement blaze

A fire at 18 Mt. Vernon Street Biddeford left two year old Lisa Boissonneault dead and three others hospitalized, including her eight months pregnant mother Sandra. Fire officials say the blaze started in the kitchen area of the second floor apartment and spread quickly.

Town House Plan Rejected In Saco

Saco Planning Board rejected Carroll Martin of Scarborough for a 9 unit two bedroom town houses on 43 to 45 Storer St citing insufficient 8,000 square feet remaining after existing seven apartments and parking. Martin may resubmit a smaller plan as discussed. The meeting also approved Roland Chenard’s seven country estates with private Smutty Lane rights of way and easements, noted that it will be a major subdivision, and urged soil feasibility testing for in ground disposal. York Cumberland Housing proposed elderly housing at Bradley and South streets with suggested plan improvements.

Youth Center Faces Closure Over Funding and Staffing

Biddeford officials met to decide the fate of the Ross Community Center Youth Center. Director Joe Saucier warned that without more staff and money the center cannot continue, especially with 13 to 16 year olds who struggle with structure. Police Chief Harry Courtois and others agreed the issue is community wide, not just Recreation Department.

SAD 71 Plans Announced for New High School

Kennebunkport district outlines a two story 90000 square foot new high school plus renovation of the existing high school into a middle school complex.
