Silver Dust To Public In Anticlimax Of 1964 Rush

Washington AP Secretary of the Treasury Douglas Dillon announced that the government will no longer exchange silver dollars for paper money. After runs by collectors the Treasury supply of cartwheels fell to about 3 million and most remain worth more than face value to collectors. A dollar in silver granules will be given in an unmarked envelope upon presenting a dollar bill at New York or San Francisco assay offices. The total stock, valued at $1.7 billion, is expected to last years.

Biddeford Education Panel Approves School Plans
