Alaskan oil pipeline may go to the wrong place
The Federal Energy Administration warned that without a west coast to east coast transport system the Alaska North Slope crude could be shut in or sold abroad. California may not need the oil as it relies on Indonesia and offshore reserves, while plans call for a 789 mile pipeline to Valdez and tanker shipments to the west coast. Environmentalists and regional interests had argued for a Canada route to serve the Midwest and East.
