Plante accused of violating state law by Manpower

Old Orchard Beach Town Manager Jerome Plante faces a state probe for allegedly failing to disclose about 1200 in income while collecting unemployment benefits. Arson probe to go before grand jury in Alfred

OLD ORCHARD BEACH The arson investigation in the Beach is headed to the Superior Court grand jury in Alfred tomorrow. Deputy Police Chief Paul Tibbetts said the state attorney general's office will pursue more than two indictments if possible. The probe covers fires since 1974, with 12 fires noted, focusing on the strongest cases. Two recent blazes within 24 hours include the White Way amusement area damage on Oct 16 and the Old Orchard House hotel fire dating to the 1880s, with about 50 000 in damages.

Port board expands to five members in Kennebunkport race

Voters citywide on Monday approved a five member board of selectmen, backed a new comprehensive plan, and re elected all incumbents who ran. H Stedman Seavey won 579 votes over Harold Hanson 445 to secure a second three year term, with no write in votes. Seavey aims to bridge resident and new employee retiree splits and foster school cooperation while Hanson pressed town finances. Hanson noted finance issues and wished Seavey luck, saying either outcome is a win.

Hobbins Pushes Amendment On 18 to 20 Drinking Age

The Maine House of Representatives approved raising the drinking age from 18 to 20 by an 85 to 55 vote, aligning with the Senate. Rep.
