AUGUSTA The Executive Council confirmed Gov. Reed's renomination of Col. Robert L. Marx as chief of the State Police. The 6-0 voice vote occurred with Chairman Robert L. Travis absent due to a storm, and Marx was sworn in for a third four year term.
Two Beach officials admit delivering 700 copies of the tax list to residents in Half Way and District Three ahead of a town meeting. Councilmen David McCallum and Leopold V. Sicard say the distribution was house to house and done without full authorization. A special council meeting is set for Friday to discuss the incident and related actions.

Fourteen year old Richard A. Dore faces sentencing for manslaughter in the November death of 12 year old Leon Muncey. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge Tuesday before a Kennebec County Superior Court jury. prosecutors cited the defendant's age in agreeing to the reduction. Manslaughter carries a maximum of 10 to 20 years. The shooting occurred in the Dore family's Hallowell apartment.
