Tariff Cuts Threaten Dollar
The plan to cut tariffs to aid Britain could worsen the U S dollar drain as world reliance on the dollar grows. West Germany and France back a free trade area with gradual tariff removal inside, while U S businesses would face harder access to gold and dollars. Britain would buy more food on the continent, risking ties with the English speaking world. Washington's stance could trigger GATT hurdles.
