The CaUCUS invites Republicans to gather in the city hall council chambers at 7 PM for tonight's caucus. The meeting aims to organize local party activities and select delegates.
Korat Air Base in northeast Thailand was closed with $30 million in assets left to the Thai government. Utapao remains the last major U S installation as about 6000 personnel wind down by the March 20 deadline. Camp Samae San to be handed over next.
The Maine Times is among seven winners of the University of Missouri Distinguished Service in Journalism awards. Winners include Wes Gallagher of The Associated Press and Avis Tucker publisher of the Warrensburg Daily Star Journal, with honors also going to Mahlon Aldridge of KFRU, Red Smith, 60 Minutes, and Carl Nichols of Cunningham and Walsh Ads.
Susan Powers, a sophomore at Old Orchard Beach High, remains in critical condition with head injuries at Maine Medical Center. The accident occurred when the car driven by her date Dwight McLeod, a junior, left Milliken Mills Road near the Scarborough line after leaving a Winter Carnival dance. McLeod was treated and released. Powers is 16, daughter of Frederick and Mrs. Powers.
Outlook for the bicentennial year annual town meeting in Kennebunkport predicts a wild session as zoning changes building codes and the 1976 budgets are reviewed. Voters face record high budget figures likely raising taxes while land donations and the town dump land are debated. moderator elected and proceedings head to a packed Consolidated School gym Tuesday.

Former President Richard Nixon returns to California from an eight day China visit praised by hosts yet criticized at home. Nixon met acting premier Hua Kuo-feng and Mao Tse-tung during talks and may be debriefed by Ford Administration officials though Kissinger indicated he would not handle the debriefing. Nixon is the only Westerner to have had extensive contacts with Hua.
Former President Nixon and wife Pat landed in an American airliner from China to be greeted by daughter Tricia Nixon Cox. Two Chinese officials joined the couple, with Nixon chatting briefly before a limousine departure. He showed fatigue and a leg flare up but did not speak to reporters as criticism at home arose.
Winter school children will be safer as they walk to Saco Middle School on Buxton Road next fall. The Maine Turnpike Authority will construct a $35 000 pedestrian walkway along the Buxton Road turnpike bridge. If the Saco city council approves Tuesday night the walkway will be built by next fall.
Wallace gains antibusing momentum as final campaign rally unfolds in Boston while other candidates face questions on busing on television panels. Jackson defends some anti busing votes but cites court orders. Udall Shriver Bayh protest debates show split views on the policy and court driven school desegregation.
In Massachusetts the Republican primary draws little activity from Ford or Reagan. Ford aides call Reagan’s lack of local organization a phantom effort, while Massachusetts ads help Reagan reach voters despite no campaign presence. Reagan won New Hampshire with 49 percent to Ford’s 52 percent.
Carter strengthens early lead with mixed results in Oklahoma and South Carolina commits. Uncommitted delegates hover near half in both states, signaling potential backing as Puerto Rican Republicans pick eight Ford loyalists. Carter secures 29 percent in Oklahoma while Fred Harris reaches 17.8 percent.
