Trieste Probes Ocean Floor In Thresher Search
The bathyscaphe Trieste descended a mile and a half to the Atlantic floor as part of the Thresher submarine search. Lt. A Martin, 30, and observer Kenneth Mackenzie, 51, conducted the dive after parts were flown 220 miles for replacement. Debris observed earlier spurred this two-square-mile bottom survey with new daily dives planned to recharge batteries and check equipment.
