Kidnapped children's safe return near Ostend

In KNOKKE ZOUTE Belgium police recovered 6 year old Hubert Bonnet and his 3 year old sister Ingrid 26 hours after they were abducted from their family's villa. A taxi driver led officers to an apartment where four Italians matched the suspects description had rented one unit. Father Pierre Bonnet said no ransom demand or contact followed the villa incident.

Mob clues lifted from Giancana wallet found near body

The slayer of Sam Giancana may have stolen papers from his wallet containing clues to the crime boss's secret activities. The Chicago Sun-Times said the papers may hold telephone numbers addresses and a possible hidden compartment for syndicate records. Police suspect a hit man fired seven shots from a .22 caliber pistol to prevent Giancana from testifying and to derail a Senate probe into CIA plots involving Castro. The wallet contained about 1400 dollars ruling out robbery.

Supreme Court delays death penalty ruling to 1975 term

The Supreme Court paused ruling on the death penalty, scheduling Jesse Thurman Fowler for re argument in the 1975 76 term beginning Oct. 6. Fowler, condemned to North Carolina’s gas chamber for killing John Griffin after a July 1 1973 Raleigh dice game dispute, is among 283 men and 3 women on death row in 24 states with two women in North Carolina and one in Ohio.

Berlinguer Says PCI Has Absolute Autonomy From Kremlin

Italian Communist Party leader Enrico Berlinguer told Time magazine at Rome headquarters that the era of Kremlin issued directives to parties outside the Soviet bloc has ended. He stressed the PCI now has absolute autonomy and noted some American politicians previously failed to recognize national Communist independence.
