Artist 74 Pleads Innocent To Murder Charge
PORTLAND AP A 74-year-old self taught artist pleaded innocent to murdering his 23 year old grand niece Dawn Sheryl Phipps of Yarmouth. On his birthday James R. Smith waived a preliminary hearing causing an automatic finding of probable cause. He was arrested after Dawn Phipps was found shot in the head at his Portland home. Detective Fernando P Giobbi said Smith admitted shooting her and directed police to the handgun.
